GUWAHATI, Oct 23 Panic prevailed among visitors to the Assam State Zoo here when a lioness managed to sneak out of the cage around 4-45 this afternoon.

The lioness a two-year-old animal born in captivity gave a torrid time to the zoo authorities but fortunately it remained inside the zoo campus and was tranquilized before it could come into confrontation with any person.

The lioness was tranquilized and put into her cage around 6-15. We are looking into how the animal could go out, the zoos Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Utpal Bora informed.

It may be recalled that on January 30 this year, two tigers had managed to escape from their confinement. This had led to a panicky situation before the tigers were tranquilized.

The incident has raised concerns over safety and security of visitors inside the State Zoo.
