Zonal meet on khadi, village industries held

GUWAHATI, Feb 6 - Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, organised a daylong zonal meet here today for Khadi and Village Industries Board and Khadi and Village Industries Commission of North Eastern Zone.

The meet was attended by KVIC chairman Vinay Kumar Saxena.

Talking to the media, Saxena said the main aim of KVIC is to generate employment so that it could fulfil the objectives of Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) in the country.

He said the Khadi board could help solve the problem of unemployment and that KVIC is giving emphasis on coordinated working culture among all the state boards so that it could share products and techniques with one another for the growth of everyone.

The KVIC chairman said the Commission is taking steps for the renovation of all the existing units and revival of all KVIC industries in the northeastern region.

Saxena said KVIC would soon launch a dedicated portal for the marketing of KVIC products from the North East zone. He added that the North East could be developed as a hub of honey production and bamboo products as both these items are abundantly available in the region.

KVIC is also organising exhibitions and using other methods for awareness about KVIC in various parts of the North East.

The daylong zonal meet was organised for reviewing the implementation of KVIC programmes to identify the thrust areas and take necessary corrective measures for development.
