Yaba tablets seized

SHILLONG, Feb 22 - Meghalaya Police have arrested five drug peddlers on the outskirts of the State capital and seized 10.174 kg of suspected amphetamine (Yaba) tablets.

Based on inputs about drugs being transported in a tourist vehicle (AS 01 LC 4807) travelling from Guwahati to Shillong, a joint operation was launched by the police and the Anti Narcotics Task Force. The vehicle was intercepted at the Mawiongrim viewpoint. There were five persons in the vehicle, including the driver.

The drugs were found inside the trolley bag of one Jiten Wairokpam Singh. Four others were also arrested and they have been identified as Akoijam Subhachandra Singh, Samphangso Shinglai, Nganba Wairokpham Chenglei and Nengneichong Lhanglal � all hailing from Thoubal and Ukhrul districts of Manipur.

A case has been registered against them at the Mawlai Police Station under the relevant Sections of the NDPS Act.
