World Youth Skills Day celebrated at ITI complex

GUWAHATI, July 15 - With the aim of making India a global leader in skilled human resources, the World Youth Skills Day was celebrated in Assam today. To mark the inauguration of the day, an interactive session was held at the Women�s ITI complex, Rehabari, here under the auspices of the Assam Government and FICCI.

Speaking on the occasion, Ranjit Barthakur, chairman, FICCI NE Advisory Council, said, �It is important to develop a skilled force in tandem with the demands and needs of the market and for this, the modernisation of the ITI is a must.� Shyamlal Mewara, Additional Chief Secretary, Labour & Employment, also spoke about the need for having skills by citing some personal experiences of his life. �The best of life can only be acquired with the best of skills� said the Additional Chief Secretary.

Monimala Phukan Barthakur, Secretary, Labour & Employment, also spoke on the need for skills and employment to go hand in hand. She said, �Without skills, there is no scope of employability and without employability, there is no use of skills.�

The welcome address was delivered by Mousumi Sen, Joint Director, Craftsmen Training, Govt of Assam. The vote of thanks by Biswajit Chakrabarty, head, FICCI NE.
