World body recognises KIO

GUWAHATI, Sept 16 - The World Karate Federation (WKF), the international body for the game of karate recognised by International Olympic Committee has granted recognition and affiliation to the new national karate federation of India � Karate India Organisation (KIO) on September 14 through the WKF executive committee meeting.

Earlier, WKF recognised Karate Association of India (KAI) but due to the conflict in KAI, WKF derecognised and disaffiliated KAI in the month of June this year.�

After the disaffiliation by WKF, the new national karate federation was formed in the name of Karate India Organisation and maximum State associations under the former federation KAI decided to join KIO with their full support and had formed a new governing body of the federation and applied for WKF recognition.

Now the Karate India Organisation, led by Vijay Tiwari as president and Sanjeev Kumar Jangra as general secretary is the only national federation for karate in India duly affiliated with the World Karate Federation. Nagen Bongjang, the treasurer of United Karate Do Association, Assam (UKAA) became one of the joint secretaries of KIO, stated a release issued by UKAA working president Sharmila Deka.
