Workshop on camera trapping held at Manas

GUWAHATI, Dec 15 - A two-day training workshop on camera trapping and GPS was conducted for the Forest staff of Manas National Park recently as part of their capacity building programme, by the Manas Tiger Reserve authorities in collaboration with the Tiger Research and Conservation Division of Aaranyak.

The event was participated by 25 persons including Forest staff, officials and selected volunteers who showed their interest and passion for conservation of wildlife. The two-day workshop included basics of tiger ecology, sign surveys and methods of tiger population estimation, and hands-on exercise in the forest.

The workshop was an important part for upcoming all India tiger monitoring.

�Manas Tiger Reserve will be starting the annual tiger monitoring in December. Manas has about 30 tigers including six cubs as per estimation carried out in early 2017. This is heartening that the population of tigers and other animals are increasing due to improved protection in the park. The Forest Department in partnership with NGOs and civil society organisations has put in lots of efforts to strengthen overall protection of the park,� a park official said.
