GORESWAR, July 4 - A wild female elephant was found dead in an irrigational canal at No.2 Dongergaon village near Bogamati under Tamulpur subdivision in Baksa district on Thursday. People suspect that the elephant died on Wednesday night due to food poisoning.

Locals said that a herd of wild elephant came to the neighbouring villages from the Barnadi Wildlife Sanctuary in search of food and water on Wednesday and destroyed a few houses and crops. The locals alleged that they informed the forest department but the officials did not respond. The man-elephant conflict has been going on in this area near the Bhutan border for a long time.
