Ways to prevent road accidents discussed

HAILAKANDI, Dec 22 - The District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) here discussed various ways to curb accidents in Hailakandi district of South Assam.

Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairperson of the District Road Safety Committee, Megh Nidhi Dahal underscored the need for putting in place four Es, i.e., Engineering, Education, Emergency and Enforcement � in order to prevent mishaps. While presiding over a meeting of the DRSC here on Monday, he stressed the need for erecting hoardings and road signage at accident-prone areas to curb accidents.

He also called for strict enforcement of road safety measures and generation of awareness on rules of the road among motorists and pedestrians alike in order to prevent accidents.

The audience was told that a number of accidents took place in the district involving pedestrians.

The meeting was attended, among others, by the District Transport Officer-cum-member secretary of DRSC, Syed Rafiqul Mannan; Additional Deputy Commissioner RK Dam; Additional Superintendent of Police Kulendra Nath Deka; Joint Director of Health Services Dr Ashutosh Barman; SDO (Sadar) Jyotirmoy Daimary, and officials of several departments.
