SHILLONG, Nov 26 - Some of the photographs taken by Amita Sangma of coal-laden trucks on the fateful day moments before she and Agnes Kharshiing were attacked have been retrieved, which may prove to be vital evidence in the case.

Sangma had taken the pictures along with Kharshiing during their visit to East Jaintia Hills to investigate into the illegal coal mining activity continuing there despite a Supreme Court ban.

During the attack, the mob snatched and destroyed their phones, but some of the pictures that Sangma had taken were sent over WhatsApp to one of her friends moments before the attack, which were retrieved today. In one of the pictures, Kharshiing is seen taking pictures of the trucks. Most of the trucks are seen with their registration numbers clearly visible.
