Veteran football meet gets off

GUWAHATI, Oct 3 - The second edition of the UB Challenge All Assam Veteran Football Championship got off to a glittering start at the Judges� Field here today.

Altogether eight teams are taking part in the league-cum-knock out championship which has been organised by the United Brothers (UB) Club. The tournament is meant for the players of above 40 years.

The championship was formally inaugurated by the Additional Chief Secretary MGVK Bhanu in the colourful opening ceremony where Guwahati Police Commissioner Mukesh Agarwal, ADC Kamrup (M) Rajib Prakash Baruah, Chairman of Prag Channel Sanjive Narain, Max Cement MD A Agarwal were present as guest.

Inaugurating the championship Bhanu lauded the effort of the organisers for organising soccer tourney for veterans which will encourage the youngsters in taking sports seriously. He said games and sports can create a conducive atmosphere for building a healthy society.

The youngsters of the Football Gurukul, which has been set up in the Panbari TE, near Tezpur by the United Brothers Club, were also present and they were introduced to the guests. All the trainees were handed over kits in the function. The organisers are also providing jerseys to the teams, informed Pronoy Bordoloi, president of the United Brothers Club.
