GUWAHATI, Aug 3 � Alleging that some vested interest groups are trying to polarise the people of violence-hit BTAD area for political interest, CPI national secretary and Member of Parliament D Raja today said that the State Government must act sensitively to find a solution to this problem.
Raja, who visited Bilasipara, Dhubri and Kokrajhar, told mediapersons here that conflict over land and possession of arms are the two major reasons behind the clashes.
�It is unfortunate that some people are trying to communalise the entire issue for political gains. Slogans on the walls and rumours among people living in rehabilitation camps are evoking the sense of insecurity among people.�
He also criticized the local authorities of the violence-affected areas for their drastic failure in controlling the situation and helping the victims. �It seems there is no local authority. At least the people do not have any faith on the local administration,� he alleged.
Asking the State Government to speed up the rehabilitation process, he said that people are living in pathetic conditions in the rehab camps with inadequate food and medicines.
�Nearly 3,200 people living in the Bilasipara College camp get their meal once a day. People are being given very limited items like rice, pulses, salt and mustard oil. The people living in most of the camps complained that due to lack of fuel, they cannot cook their food very often,� CPI leader Dhrupad Bargohain said.
�Similarly, the people living in Lukakhata Higher Secondary School complained that the medicines given to them are ineffective,� he added.
�The then Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on his visit to the State remarked that people are satisfied with the arrangements in the rehabilitation camps. But the truth is just the opposite, and plight of those people is beyond imagination,� said D Raja.
Asking the State Government to speed up the rehabilitation process of the victims of group clashes, Raja said that people are willing to return to their homes but they should be given adequate security and complementation.
�None of State Government�s action plans to control the situation is implemented on the ground,� Borgohain added.
