Vajpayee�s ashes immersed in Imphal river

IMPHAL, Aug 23 - Amid a drizzle, an urn containing the ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which was brought from Delhi, was immersed in the Imphal river near Sanjenthong, a bridge connecting Imphal West and Imphal East districts, today.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, accompanied by Rajya Sabha member Kh Bhabananda, who is also the BJP State president, Cabinet colleagues, MLAs and others, immersed the urn containing the asthi after holding a prayer meeting around 4 pm.

Earlier, a State-level prayer meeting and a tribute ceremony were held at the city convention centre hall where Governor Dr Najma Heptulla and the Chief Minister paid homage to the former Prime Minister. A prayer meeting was also held at the State BJP office at Keishampat here.
