Use social media judiciously: CM

DIBRUGARH, Sept 26 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today urged upon the student community to use social media to build a healthy relationship and for promoting peace and tranquillity in the society.

Referring to the recent Supreme Court�s call to frame guidelines to curb social media misuse, Sonowal who addressed the student fraternity at his alma mater DHSK College on the eve of the opening of the platinum jubilee celebration today, called upon the students to refrain from circulating hate messages and inflammatory contents through social media. �Do not land yourself in trouble by becoming cyber criminals. If you misuse the social media you will not only bring harm to the society but also ruin yourself and bring shame to your family,� he said and further urged upon them to be social thinkers and nation builders.

Stressing upon the priorities of student life, Sonowal said: �Gone are the days when it was enough to be good. But today it is the age of cut throat competition. Good has almost no place today. You will have to be the best among all. For this you must dedicate yourself. As a student you ought to spend at least 10 hours in studies. If you work hard you will definitely taste the fruits of success,� said the Chief Minister.

Recalling his days in the college as a student, a gymnasium secretary and strongman of the college, Sonowal said that DHSK College has a unique identity in the field of education in the state. �Promotion of sports and culture along with education must continue. The students from this institute must become a catalyst of change in the society. We must all strive to make this premiere institute the best college in the state. Through this jubilee, let us send a strong message to the people on issues concerning us. Let us not conclude it by merely holding events and adorning the campus. A strong resolve should be collectively taken to do something for a change,� he said.

As the past student of the college, the Chief Minister on his arrival was accorded a rousing welcome at the college. He was felicitated by his teachers, alumni association, college unit of the All College Teachers� Association, students� union, employees� union, Kanoi family besides the college in general.

The DHSK College, originally founded on June 15, 1945, was then called Dibrugarh College. The educational institute was later renamed after its donors as Dibrugarh Hanumanbax Surajmal Kanoi College (DHSK) in 1957. The formal inauguration of the platinum jubilee celebration will take place tomorrow.
