UPLA calls for ban on illegal mining

DIPHU, Sept 18 - The United People�s Liberation Army (UPLA), a militant outfit under ceasefire agreement with the state government, has called for a ban on illegal mining and sell of natural resources like sand, stones, coal, timber etc. of Karbi Anglong . This was disclosed in a press release by UPLA joint secretary Young Tungjang.

The UPLA leader also appealed to the state government to bring in all-round development in the district in order to improve the conditions of the poor Karbi people.

� We are also worried over rising cases of smuggling of timber, stones, sand, coal and other forest products in the district. We are incurring a huge revenue loss, and, therefore, the state government should take a promt action in this regard,� the leader said in the release. The joint secretary of the organisation also appealed to the people not to involve in mining activities.
