DHUBRI, Jan 21 - The Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Pijush Hazarika, on Sunday visited the Dhubri Civil Hospital to inaugurate a free dialysis centre, and was highly disappointed with cleanliness of the hospital.

Addressing the gathering, after the inauguration of the free dialysis centre, Hazarika said that the hospital and its adjacent areas are so dirty and unhygienic that they can spread diseases. The condition is such that patients will fall more ill after visiting the hospital, said Hazarika.

The minister informed that the State is allotting Rs 1.2 lakh every month and the hospital authorities are collecting Rs 1.8 lakh every month on an average from the patients collectively as user fees, totalling an amount of Rs 3 lakh approximately for maintenance and cleanliness. Even then, the biggest hospital in the district remained unclean and unhygienic, he added. I urge all the people connected with the hospital, including Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and Joint Director of Health, to utilise the money properly and keep the health care institution clean, he said.

Previously, Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi had also expressed his dissatisfaction over the cleanliness of Dhubri Civil Hospital.

The free dialysis centre of the hospital aims at serving the kidney patients of the district, who otherwise visited Coochbehar in West Bengal twice every week for dialysis. The free dialysis centre has been set up in PPP model between the State and Apollo Hospital Enterprise, and for every session of dialysis, the State government will pay Rs 1296 to Apollo Hospital Enterprise.
