Unclaimed seizures: BTAD officers warned

Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

GUWAHATI, Sept 24 - There has been an increasing trend of unclaimed seizures of various goods and materials in the BTAD without arrests of offenders, a fact that has irked Governor Jagdish Mukhi. The BTAD is currently under Governors rule since April-end.

Following a review meeting chaired by the Governor on September 14, the Additional PCCF of BTC has written a letter to all DFOs under him and the Manas National Park Director.

There has been an increasing trend of unclaimed seizure of timber, vehicles, carts, buffaloes, boats, cycles... without arresting offenders... This is an act of omission and is abetment to crime, if done knowingly. The highest punishment as per law is to be imposed for such abetment, it said.

The forest staff is empowered to arrest the accused.
