UGC fellowship to 2 DU teachers

DIBRUGARH, July 24 - The University Grants Commission (UGC) has awarded its Emeritus Professor fellowship to two distinguished teachers of the Dibrugarh University. They are Prof Pradip Kumar Bhuyan of the Department of Physics and Prof Bhimakanta Barua of the Department of Assamese.

The UGC offers such fellowships to highly qualified and experienced professors of recognised universities and other such recognised institutions, who have superannuated or are likely to superannuate, to conduct specific research work over a period of two years.

Prof Bhuyan will carry out his research on �Simulation of aerosol properties and air quality using the WRF Chem model and forecasting the chemical weather in South Asia.� On the other hand, Prof Barua will conduct a research on �A critical study of the languages of North-eastern India.�

Prof Bhuyan has made noteworthy contribution to research and development in the field of Atmospheric Sciences. Prof Baruah, who is held in high esteem in the field of Assamese literature, is regarded as an erudite scholar of North-eastern languages. His contribution to the standardization of the Nagamese dialect has been applauded in the academic circle. These two professors will avail of the fellowship from 2016.
