Udit completes double crown

JORHAT, Aug 26 - Udit Gogoi, who was hospitalised last night due to illness caused by scorching heat, came from the hospital bed to play the singles final of the AITA-National Series Tennis Championship that concluded here today at the Jorhat Tennis Club.

In the first set, against Maanav V Jain of Karnataka, Udit was fighting more against his temperature than his opponent and went down 6-7 (2).

But the spirited Assam boy made a brilliant comeback and outplayed the opponent in next two sets convincingly with a scoreline of 6-0, 6-0 showing great mental strength.

With this singles title, Udit completed the double crown having won the doubles title yesterday.

The Jorhat Tennis Club handed over Udit Gogoi a cash award of Rs 25,000 for his achievement.

In the closing function the prizes were distributed by AITA treasurer and president of the AATA Raktim Saikia.
