Two teenage girls drown in floodwater

HATSINGIMARI, July 20 - A pall of gloom has been prevailing in Mankachar area over the tragic death of two teenage girls today. The family sources informed that the two neighbouring girls along with others went to bathe in the floodwater and got drowned.

It is to be noted that the locality is not basically a flood-prone area, but due to the breaching of the Indo-Bangla border road on July 16 last, abruptly the entire area got flooded overnight.

The victims were identified as Jusufa Khatun (13), d/o Jamirul Islam and Rubina Khatun (12) d/o Ziadul Islam, both of Jhalerchar Daruagaon under Mankachar police station of Southsalmara Mankachar district. With this altogether, three persons have died in the current phase of floods in the district.
