Two detained with stolen mobile phones

GUWAHATI, Jan 7 - The train checking patrol of the Government Railway Police (GRP) detained two persons with stolen mobile phones from the Guwahati Railway Station today.

They have been identified as Rajesh Kumar Rai and Sanjon Tewari, both 25-year-old, and residents of Jharkhand.

The team recovered 19 stolen phones from their possession from the Brahmaputra Mail. A case has been registered in this regard.

The GRP also arrested a person with suspected fake gold weighing about 400 grams from one Lorans Kujur, hailing from Jharkhand, at the Kamakhya Railway Station today.

Contraband seized: During the period from November 25, 2019, to January 5, 2020, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway intercepted and recovered contraband items such as foreign-made cigarettes and cannabis worth about Rs 20.01 lakh and also rescued a rare species of tortoise from a smuggler.

The smuggler involved in the illegal transportation of the tortoise was arrested, said an official statement issued today.
