Turbine-laden ship reaches Jogighopa

BONGAIGAON, Dec 7 � A ship loaded with turbines and other machinery meant for the hydel power project at Lower Subansiri river reached Jogighopa river port on Friday noon under tight security cover. The consignment is supposed to be unloaded atJogighopa near the river bank where the old consignment has been lying.

Meanwhile, the AASU and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) have continued their demonstrations near the spot. Security around the consignment was so tight that even media persons were not allowed to take visuals or snaps.

In protest against the alleged dubious role played by the NHPC and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in the matter of building mega dams, AJYCP and AASU members burnt Gogoi�s effigy separately here today. KMSS assistant general secretary Kamal Medhi told the media that his organisation was committed to opposing the shipping of the consignment. The KMSS activists will not abandon their protest under any circumstances in this matter, Medhi added.
