AGARTALA, July 14 - The COVID-19 situation in Tripura has worsened after 131 positive cases were confirmed during the span of 48 hours. However, there are no reports of any fatality.

Out of 1,854 samples collected for tests on Sunday, 105 swabs came out positive. As many as 26 positive cases were confirmed after tests on 2,463 samples on Monday. With the two-day figures, Tripura now has 602 active cases. The total COVID-19 tally is 2,094 in the State.

The number of containment zones has increased from 49 to 54 due to the fresh infections.

Speaking to media persons at the Civil Secretariat here today, Education Minister Ratal Lal Nath maintained that the overall COVID-19 situation in Tripura is relatively better. However, there have been instances of neglect of COVID-19 guidelines at public places, he rued. It is time to follow the guidelines and protocols strictly. People must respect the government instructions because a small mistake can bring about a disaster for the State, Nath warned.

On the outcome of the antigen tests being undertaken in the State, the minister said a total of 1,614 tests were carried out during the past four days. Out of them, 21 positive cases were confirmed.

The Tripura Government has decided to intensify the tests to check the spread of the virus. Till date, 86,610 swabs have been collected for COVID-19 tests, out of which 85,321 tests have already been done, he said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb called an emergent meeting with Health Department officials to find ways to arrest the spread of the disease. The meeting, held at the conference hall of the Civil Secretariat, had a threadbare discussion on the latest COVID-19 scenario in the State.

Nath, however, said that he had no knowledge of the outcome of the meeting. But sources said that the State Government is planning to impose a full lockdown to prevent community transmission of COVID-19.
