AGARTALA, June 13 - A total of 537 party members have been expelled on different grounds including moral degradation over the past one year, said CPM Tripura unit secretary Bijan Dhar.
Presenting the latest report on party membership-2016, he said membership of 3,011 party members was not renewed due to various reasons while 537 party members were exelled during the past one year.
Speaking to the media here on Monday, he said, the number of party members has increased to 91,578 in 2016 from 89,570 in 2015 which is an increase of 2.24 per cent.
On the expulsion of so many comrades and non-renewal of 5,011 party members, Dhar stated the party has adopted zero tolerance to maintain discipline as was decided in the party plenum. �In the last one year, the State winessed three elections and some specific complaints were lodged against some comrades for indulging in anti-party activities which has prompted the party to act tough�, he pointed out.
Asserting that the party would continue to pursue a zero tolerance to maintain discipline, he said the party State unit is determined to follow the resolution adopted in last CPM plenum. On the women representation in the party, he said the increase in women in the party membership witnessed a little hike of 0.43 per cent.
Dhar also sharply criticised Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (IPFT) for calling a National Highway blockade programme demanding a separate State of Twipraland.
�I would like to appeal to all political parties including Congress, Trinamool Congress and BJP to declare their stand on Twipraland demand�, he said.
On the rapidly changing political scenario in Tripura, Dhar said a former Chief Minister had also tried to sow the seeds of Trinamool Congress in the State but he could not do it. Let�s see what happens this time, he added.
