AGARTALA, June 3 � A day after the successful trial run of Kolkata-Agartala direct bus service by West Bengal Government, Tripura Transport Corporation Ltd (TRTC) initiated a trial run for the same route today, official sources confirmed here.
A four-member team headed by Secretary, Transport department Samarjit Bhowmik began the trial run for the Agartala-Kolkata direct bus service boarding a TRTC bus.
�A TRTC bus leaves Krishnanagar bus terminal at 6.30 am for Kolkata via Dhaka. The bus carrying officials is expected to return here day after tomorrow�, said an official of TRTC on condition of anonymity.
The bus is expected to run around 500 km to reach Kolkata�s Benapole-Petrapole within 12/13 hours while a bus requires to travel 1,500 km to reach Kolkata.
After getting a green signal, West Bengal State Transport Corporation Ltd (WBSTC) has already conducted a successful trial run from Kolkata to Agartala via Dhaka.
Bhowmik is being accompanied by MD TRTC RM Malakar, MD of Tripura Urban Transport Corporation (TUTCL) Ratan Biswas and SP Special Branch Arindam Nath.
Alapan Banerjee, Secretary of West Bengal Transport department who led the trial-run team said the run was very successful and the WBSTC is ready to operate the bus service on Kolkata-Agartala via Dhaka route.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina are scheduled to flag off Agartala-Kolkata direct bus service in Dhaka on June 6.
