Tributes paid to Rupkonwar

TEZPUR, Jan 17 - Rich tributes were paid to Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala on his 68th death anniversary here. Several programmes were organized by leading bodies, including Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Trimurty Uddyan, Tezpur District Lekhika Samaroh Samittee, Tezpur District Mahila Samittee wherein people recalled the contribution of the famous cultural icon.

Participating in the programme, noted artist Noni Borpujari gave a brief sketch on the creative works of Rupkonwar. In this context he said that Jyotiprasad Agarwala was instrumental in uniting the people of Assam through his songs.

The programme was also attended by president of Guwahati artist guild, Aminul Haque, secretary, Kishor Kumar Das, noted artist Tikendrajit Saikia among others. At Trimurty Uddyan, MLA, Tezpur LAC, Brindaban Goswami also paid tributes to Rupkonwar. In his speech he urged upon the people to follow the ideology of the cultural icon. A cultural procession was also taken out from Trimurty Uddyan that culminated at Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Bhavan.

Sivasagar ANN Service adds: Glowing tributes were paid to Rupkonwar today by Sivasagar District Journalists Association(SDJA) in association with Asom Sanskritik Mohasabha at the District Library premises. Noted cultural activist Hema Dutta lit the ceremonial lamp near the life statue of Rupkonwar installed by Sanskritik Mohasabha. Somesh Deka, president, SDJA, spoke on Agarwala�s contributions while Manoj Borthakur,vice president, SDJA, appealed to the youths to follow the path of Jyotiprasad. Trailukya Dutta, secretary of Mohasobha, also spoke on the occassion. It was also addressed by Sangeeta Chetia, Prasanta Borgohain, journalist, Nitumoni Kalita and Anil Gupta, journalist.
