Training prog on road safety at IITG

GUWAHATI, Feb 18 - A five-day training programme on road safety, jointly organised by the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) and the Asian Institute of Transport Development (AITD), New Delhi, with support from the World Bank, was held recently at the Conference Centre of the IIT Guwahati.

The inaugural session of the training programme was presided over by Rajesh Kemprai, Commissioner and Special Secretary to the Government of Assam. Prof Gautam Biswas, Director, IIT Guwahati; Riten Kumar Singh, Regional Officer, NE, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways; Raj Chakrabarty, CGM & RO NE, National Highways Authority of India and DP Gupta, Director (Roads & Highways), AITD, were present on the occasion.

The training programme on road safety was part of the broader initiative of IIT Guwahati to provide a platform for the enrichment of technical know-how for building safe roads and interaction of highway professionals of the north-eastern region to comprehensively address the burning issue of road safety.

Distinguished speakers from different parts of the country, including resource persons from IIT Guwahati, delivered lectures on different aspects related to road safety during the programme.

Highway professionals of the northeastern states from different government agencies like Public Works Department (Roads), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), along with representatives from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and AITD participated in the programme.

Dr Akhilesh Kumar Maurya and Dr Rajan Choudhary, associate professors, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Guwahati, coordinated the programme.
