DIMAPUR, Sept 21 - Nagaland DGP TJ Longkumer today said that 46 officers of the Nagaland Police had received training on cyber crime investigation.

Addressing the valedictory function of the eight-day cyber crime investigation training programme at the Chumukedima Police Complex here, Longkumer said the teaching methodology included online pre- and post-assessment, hands-on exercises, case studies and group discussions. He said the entire training programme was divided into two parts comprising a cyber crime awareness programme and a cyber crime investigation module.

The three-day cyber crime awareness programme covered topics like basics of computer hardware and other electronic devices, concepts of Internet technology, introduction to the social media, introduction to cyber crimes and the Information Technology Act. The session on open source intelligence gathering, use of IT in policing, basics of a good cyber crime FIR and call data and tower data records got the best feedback among all, Longkumer said.

The Nagaland DGP said the five-day cyber crime investigation module exposed the participants to various facets of investigation including pre-investigation assessment, search, seizure, documentation, labelling and packing, investigation into Internet protocol, website, email, communication devices, social media crimes and financial frauds. Challenges to cyber crime investigation, along with open source forensic tools, opened up their mind space to a host of new possibilities, Longkumer added.

The DGP said the cyber crime training module was conceptualised under the cyber crime prevention against women and children scheme where training was imparted to the 46 police officers in two phases.
