GUWAHATI, May 5 - Train services to southern and eastern coastal States, which had been hit on account of Cyclone Fani, were restored today.
Train services have been restored from today. The first train Kamakhya-Puri Express departed at 6.30 pm this evening to the affected region. The East Coast Railway (ECR) has started accepting services, said Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) public relations officer (PRO) Nripen Bhattacharya.
He, however, added that cancellation of those trains which had been announced earlier will remain so.
Cancellation of 20 trains, which were announced earlier, will remain as declared. Those trains will remain cancelled. However, there will be no new cancellations, said Bhattacharya.
He added that a group of pilgrims from various parts of Assam, who had departed from Puri earlier this week by special train to Howrah, reached the State early this morning.
They arrived in the Kanchanjunga Express which reached Guwahati at 4 this morning. While some passengers de-boarded at Nalbari and Baihata, a few reached Guwahati, added Bhattacharya.
