Tortoise rescued

BAIHATA CHARIALI, April 19 - A section people of Jalah village near Changsari yesterday rescued a rare species of tortoise found near the village.

A team of Forest officials led by Rabin Baishya rushed to the spot and brought the tortoise to the Sila Range Forest Office. Later, it was released at the Saraighat Lake.

With the population of most varieties of tortoise dwindling rapidly in the State, forest officials and wildlife NGOs are working hard to create awareness among the people.
