Torchlight rally against Citizenship Bill

JORABAT, Nov 16 - A huge torchlight procession was taken out at Khetri this evening in protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, by the Dimoria unit of All Assam Students� Union. Representatives of various other indigenous organisations also participated in the rally.

The rally started at Dimoria College and moved around the market to Khetri tri-junction raising slogans against the bill. The protesters numbering around 1,000, shouted slogans like �Denounce the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016�, �Hindu Bangladeshis Go Back� and �BJP Government hai-hai� during the protest.

Dipu Zena Sarma, adviser to the Dimoria regional unit of AASU, while addressing mediapersons, said that the Sarbananda Sonowal-led government has failed to provide Constitutional safeguards to the indigenous people of Assam.

�We are not going to keep silent on the issue; we will intensify our protest if the bill is not rejected,� he added.
