TINSUKIA, Dec 5 - Demanding a permanent solution to the problems of flood and erosion and criticising the apathetic attitude of both the Central and State governments towards the issue of flood-induced erosion, the Tinsukia district committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioners office complex here recently.

According to the protesters, the committee has been demanding a permanent solution to the perennial flood-induced erosion problem in the Dhola-Hatighuli, Kordoiguri, Baghjan, Dirak-Sumoni, Dibru-Saikhowa National Park and Sadiya in Tinsukia district.

The protesters felt that the big river dams coming up in the upstream of the rivers are nothing but veritable water bombs which have become a threat to the people of the district. The AJYCP activists threatened that if their demands are not fulfilled, then it would undertake their agitational programme more vigorously.
