Three-day Janmashtami celebrations conclude

GUWAHATI, Sept 6 - The three-day Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations under the aegis of Hare Krishna Movement, Guwahati and the Akshaya Patra Foundation (Guwahati branch) at Sonaram field here, concluded today.

The occasion celebrated with all the traditional fanfare, attracted a cross-section of citizens, including school students.

The three-day extravaganza included a wide range of activities, all aimed at promoting brotherhood and spiritual enlightenment amongst the masses and particularly the younger generation.

School students in large numbers participated in the event Heritage Fest that gave them a platform to showcase their creativity. In another event for college students Yuvakshetra, students from various colleges performed cultural programmes on all the three days.

Apart from the rituals integral to the celebration, the organisers also arranged cultural functions and a Satvik food festival. On Saturday, on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami, the programme began at 10 am and continued till midnight, followed by distribution of special prasad. Governor PB Acharya along with his family also visited the venue in the evening.

Janmashtami was also celebrated in different parts of the city, including the Assam Engineering Institute playground with varied programmes.
