Thousands attend Bodo Nat�l Festival

KAJALGAON (CHIRANG), Feb 5 � A festive atmosphere has gripped Kajalgaon, headquarter of Chirang district, where the 4th Bodo National Festival got under way on Saturday.

According to the festival committee more than 3000 delegates from different states and abroad are participating in the five-day event. Delegates have come the home state Assam, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland, besides from neighbouring countries Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.

Today Rajya Sabha member and president of BNFC Biswajit Daimary hoisted the flag of the festival. Debojit Thausen, chief of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council flagged off the cultural procession in which troupes from various ethnic communities took part.

A souvenir, The Great Bodo Race was released by Kampa Borgoyari, deputy chief of BTC and president of the reception committee. Speaking on the occasion Borgoyari underlined the need for a common Bodo dictionary.

BNFC sources further revealed that the prime objective of the programme is to unite all the Bodo groups scattered over various places in the country�s north-eastern region as well as in Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.
