Temple inaugurated

BARPETA, Jan 27 - A new Jagannath temple was inaugurated at the bell metal town of Sarthebari on Sunday morning as a fruition of a 17-year-long dream.

The temple was formally inaugurated and the idol of Jagannath was erected on the altar by Nanigopal Deva Goswami, satradhikar, Dakshinpat Satra of Majuli. Hom jajna was performed in the temple at noon followed by naam prasanga.

It may be mentioned that the foundation stone of this temple was laid on April 30, 1999 on the Buddha Purnima day. It is a 105 feet high structure with 11,304 square feet floor area. The construction cost of the temple came to nearly Rs 1.5 crore, collected mainly from donations.
