Teachers have to meet emerging needs of 21st century learners: CM

GUWAHATI, Dec 21 - The Council for Teacher Education Foundation-Assam (CTEF-Assam) with support from Gratia Technology Guwahati hosted a virtual international conference on December 19-20, according to a press release issued here today. Chief guest of the occasion Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the conference.

In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Sonowal focused on the importance of how the teaching community has to meet the various emerging needs of the 21st century learners.

He said the adi guru or parents, siksha guru who enlightens the mind and the spiritual guru who shows the correct path in life, are all significant teachers of learners. For the best learning outcome of the learners and to implement the National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020), teachers at all levels must develop the readiness to transform the teaching-learning process, he said.

Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijjiju who was virtually present in the valedictory session, focused on sports and sporting activities in the life of learners, adding that sports itself is education.

Rijjiju spoke about the initiative to collaborate with global universities to discuss sports components and its relation to quality education. Sports should be treated as a way of life, he said. He emphasised that sports should be treated as an integral part of education as focused in NEP-2020.

Prof Anil Sahasrabudhe and Prof BC Das Purkayastha were present as guests of honour.

Earlier, the keynote address was given by Dr Margerita Ballesteros of Phillipines. Mukul Kanitkar, organising secretary, Bharatiya Sikshan Mandal, Nagpur spoke as the first invited speaker on implementation of NEP-2020. Prof Shasikala Wanjari, Vice Chancellor, SNDT University released the online CTEF-Assam newsletter Beyond.

According to the press release, it was for the first time in the history of CTEF that twenty-eight invited speakers from seven countries and a host of stalwarts and participants from the education and technology sectors of India and abroad were present on both days of the mega academic event.

At the same event CTEF-Assam chapter was adjudged the best performing CTEF state in India for undertaking thirty professional development programmes for teachers and students from March to November, 2020 and for overall performance. It was also awarded for the best newsletter and adjudged the best chapter for life membership drive, the release, issued by chairman of CTEF-Assam chapter and international secretary general of CTEF Prof Nilima Bhagabati, added.
