Tallest meji lit at Borkuchi

MIRZA, Jan 16 - Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Anjan Dutta today lit the tallest meji in Assam at Borkuchi near here in the presence of thousands of Bihu revellers.

The 120-foot-tall meji, constructed by the public of Barkuchi, Bangara, Sontola and Gadebori, is considered to be the tallest meji ever built in Assam during Magh Bihu celebration. It took 150 labourers to build the meji using 1,000 bamboo poles, 20 truckloads of straw and three truckloads of banana leaves.

In the meji lighting ceremony, several dignitaries including APCC general secretary Naba Talukdar, singer Samar Hazarika, Bongara-Majpara Sattra sattradhikar Dhiren Choudhry and social worker Ram Kumar Das were present.
