GUWAHATI, April 4 - A team of the Food Safety department of Kamrup Metro district today carried out an inspection drive in seven hotels and other food-selling entities at Ulubari and Paltan Bazar, and also visited the office of Swiggy, where it was found that the company is running its business in the city without having a proper licence.
According to food safety official Tarun Das, the city office of Swiggy failed to show a hard copy of its licence, which is necessary to run a food transportation business in a particular area as per the Food Safety Act.
�Later, the Swiggy head office mailed a copy of the licence to us. But, the name of Assam was missing in it. So, we directed the city office to show a proper licence within the next two days, or else we shall take action against them,� Das said.
The team carried out the drive at Paltan Bazar in six hotels and issued seven days� improvement and closure notice to two of them, namely Samrat Punjab Dhaba and Dilkhush Punjabi Dhaba, as unhygienic conditions were detected in their premises.
At Ulubari, the team inspected a sweet shop, Kolkata Sweets, and collected samples of paneer and sweet curd for further investigation in the State public health laboratory.
