GUWAHATI, Sept 11 - Governor Jagdish Mukhi today attended a public meeting held here to mark the beginning of the celebrations of the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekanandas epoch-making speech at the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893.

Addressing the meeting, Mukhi said Swami Vivekananda, through his speech, played an important role in introducing the Hinduism to the western world.

His historic speech in Chicago, delivered with crisp logic and scientific insight, attracted the worlds attention. Though the speech was delivered 125 years ago, it is even relevant today. Vivekanandas speech delivered at the World Parliament of Religions is etched in our memories, he said.

The Governor also hailed the Ramakrishna Missions role in helping the less privileged people to rise and assert themselves of their rights in the society without fear by following the teachings of Swami Vivekananda.
