Sunrise AC to hold half marathon

GUWAHATI, Jan 18 - On the occasion of their diamond jubilee celebration, the city based Sunrise Athletic Club will organise All Assam Half Marathon for men here in the city on January 28.

Addressing a press conference at their Kahilipara Colony Bazar club house today, the president and secretary of the club Badal Dey and Arup Kalita respectively said that the winner of the half marathon will be awarded Rs 15,000 while the second and third position holders will get Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000 respectively. Rs 1,500 each will be given to the fourth to 10th position holders.

The club officials also appealed the State Government to develop playgrounds in different localities in order to facilitate the clubs in preparing their football teams. �We use the Lutuma LP School ground for practice but the ground needs development. So, we urge the government to develop the ground where all the teams of the Kahilipara area can practise,� said Dey.

Dutta revealed that they have resolved not to include players from other States in their team this season. �We have been including foreign players in our team for the last seven years but from this year onwards we will prepare our team with local players,� said Kalita. They also appealed to all the clubs of the State to prepare their football teams with local players.

The diamond jubilee celebrations got underway on January 16 and will conclude on February 10.
