SUCI against imposition of Hindi in schools

GUWAHATI, April 23 - The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) has strongly criticised the decision of the Central Government to impose Hindi in schools and other spheres.

We strongly criticise the decision of the Government to accept the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee for making Hindi compulsory upto Class-X in all Central and CBSE schools.

The move has been initiated with the intention of making Hindi practically compulsory in different spheres of Government and social activities, including higher education, civil services examination materials, brochures and journals and even airline tickets, SUCI (Communist) general secretary Provash Ghosh said.

The organisation has been maintaining that in a multi-lingual country like India, no language can flourish through imposition as the process of learning a language is a voluntary one. Therefore, there should be a two-language formula of learning the mother tongue and English throughout the entire period of learning as that serves best the cause of genuine education, Ghosh said.
