GUWAHATI, Dec 12 - Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary has called upon all the MSME units to give thrust on producing quality products, which alone will help the units survive the severe competition from global companies. He said this while attending a national workshop on �Lean Manufacturing� organised by FINER in association with MSME-Development Institute, Guwahati at the NEDFi Convention Centre here today.
�We often talk about industrial growth and its benefits to the State�s economy, employment generation and its growth and development. However, we tend to forget a vital point, which is waste management,� Patowary said.
�With rising concerns about global warming and climate change, industry vis-a-vis waste management has become a very sensitive as well as crucial issue. All industries, including MSMEs must address this for betterment of our standard of living. Lean Manufacturing is an initiative to address this issue. It is a holistic approach to reduce wastes, increase production and improve the quality of products, which are essential for competing in national and international markets,� he added.
The Minister further stated that a proposal to set up a tool room of Rs 12.5 crore in Assam for skill training to youths will soon be sent to the Ministry of MSME, Government of India.
Addressing the gathering of MSME entrepreneurs from the North East and Sikkim along with other industry associates and stakeholders, SN Tripathi, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner (MSME), Government of India, said, �Just like a mother, who sees her image in her child, nurtures and takes care of the baby, entrepreneurs must also see their images in their products so that quality is taken care of. Lean Manufacturing transfers profitability to the manufacturers by optimum use of the resources.�
Tripathi added, �MSMEs must adopt a competitive spirit and must always remain alert to the sound of competitiveness from other partners to sustain and survive in the market.�
He added, �The global trend suggests that manufacturing enterprises working as clusters and aggregators are highly benefited�, and cited examples of Uber, Make my Trip and Airbnb. He asked the audience to download the �My MSME� mobile application which acts as a source of all information related to MSME�s policies, services and schemes.
Dr KK Dwivedi, Commissioner, Industries and Commerce, called upon the MSMEs to inculcate a habit of producing and delivering quality products and services. �The core principle of Lean Management is quality which distinguishes the good from the poor products. It garners people�s faith in the product and helps the units to compete at par with the MNCs�, said Dr Dwivedi.
Vipin Sahani, CEO, Quality Council of India; Shirish Asthana, Director, MSME, Guwahati and Pabitra Buragohain, president FINER were also present on the occasion. Experts from Quality Council of India, National Productivity Council deliberated as resource persons. A souvenir on Lean Manufacturing was also released during the workshop.
