DERGAON, Oct 8 - As many as 300 houses were damaged while another 100 houses damaged partially by a storm that blew over several villages in Golaghat district of upper Assam on Sunday. The speed of the storm was so high that the roofs of houses were blown up to 500 metres away in some cases. The big trees were uprooted while the electric posts were displaced.
The storm damaged houses, trees, electric posts in as many as 20 villages. The damage of the storm was severe in five revenue villages, namely, Charingia, Betioni Bagan, Halowa gaon, Burahlikson and Hatiyekhowa under Dergaon, Golaghat and Khumtai revenue circle.
Meanwhile, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) and Project Director, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Golaghat, Utpal Doley visited the affected areas and took stock of the situation. The ADC also interacted with the affected people and advised them for necessary action so that they get the needed compensation from the government. He was accompanied by the Lat Mandals of Golaghat revenue circle, Gaonburhas and the local people.
On being contacted, the ADC told The Assam Tribune that he had already instructed the circle officers of the three revenue circles to submit the detailed report of the damage urgently. �More than 250 houses were completely damaged by the storm. Several trees were uprooted and seven electric posts were lying on the road at Buralikson under Kothalguri Gaon Panchayat,� he added.
Though no casualty has been reported till the filing of this report, several people received injuries while one person at Bagan Cahriali received serious injuries on his hand. As the storm blew away the roofs and rain fell inside the houses during the storm, properties of the households were thoroughly damaged. The school books and other study materials were also damaged completely.
