SILCHAR, Aug 9 - Protesters representing the Bishnupriya Manipuri community suspended their stir demanding inclusion in the list of indigenous community after Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar and Silchar legislator Dilip Kumar Paul stepped up with assurances of addressing their demand.

It may be mentioned that a large number of people from the community under the banner of Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha began a 30-hour stir outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner echoing their demand.

Further, they also sought inclusion of the community in the central list of other backward classes (OBC) in Assam.

We have suspended our protest following the assurances given by the two leaders about a dialogue with the Chief Minister on our demands, a leader among the agitators informed.
