State executive meet of scribe body held at Orang

KALAIGAON, Dec 12 - The executive meeting of All Assam Journalist Union (AAJU) was held at Orang Natya Mandir on December 11 with a day-long programme.

The meeting was organised jointly by Udalguri District Journalist Union and Orang Press Club in association with All Assam Journalist Union. Homage was paid to Khargeswar Talukdar, the martyr of Assam Movement, by observing a minute�s silence at the start of the meeting. DJ Sarma, working president of AAJU, in his introductory speech, welcomed all the AAJU officials coming from different districts of Assam.

Pankaj Kumar Sarma, president, AAJU, Assam presided over the meeting where Dr Ramesh Chandra Borpatra Gohain, former adviser of AAJU and at present the Advocate General of Assam was felicitated with a gamusa, japi and sorai by AAJU State committee; Udalguri District Journalist Union, Orang Press Club, Orang HS School, AKRSU etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Advocate General Borpatra Gohain thanked AAJU and other organisations for honouring him in public. He specially mentioned about the sacrifices made by women while supporting men in providing services to people and the society. He assured mediapersons that he would continue his relentless fight against injustice and corruption in Assam in the coming days. He also requested mediapersons to draw his attention to any social issues for which he would be happy to offer his support.

Pankaj Kumar Nath, president, AAJU, in his speech, expressed his serious concern over the regular deaths of wild elephants on railway tracks in Assam. He criticized Assam government and NF Railway for their failure in saving the lives of wild elephants. He appealed to the State government to cancel land allotment to Baba Ramdev at Balipara and in other districts of Assam.
