GANGTOK, Dec 20 - The Sashastra Seema Bals (SSB) Gangtok Sector today celebrated the 57th anniversary of the force with a glittering function at Marchak following all COVID-19 related precautions.

On this occasion, Inspector General BK Pal conveyed his greetings to all the members of the force.

Pal said in its 57-year-long journey, SSB has been successful in creating a strong rapport with the people living along the borders and has earned the name of friendly force. He said SSB was established in the year 1963 in the form of Special Service Bureau after the 1962 India-China war with the aim of creating solidarity among the border people and fostering national unity among them.

After it was renamed and turned into a border guarding force under the Union Home Ministry in 2001, it has been guarding the countrys borders with Nepal and Bhutan, he informed.
