SILCHAR, Jan 19 - Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal will attend the youth conclave to be held at the Town Club ground here on January 21 as the chief guest. The youth conclave titled Skilled Youth, Empowered Assam is being organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK).

Member of the Board of Governors, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Dinesh Pratap Singh today said that as many as 1500 college students and youths from Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi and Dima Hasao districts will take part in the conclave which will be the first of the six meetings to be held in various parts of the state.

Barak Valley has been a deprived territory in terms of facilities and opportunities for the youths. There were demands to launch such a programme from Silchar and the Ministry of Youth Affairs decided to kick-start the flagship programme from here. The aim of the conclave is to make the youth aware about the developmental changes taking place in the region, state and country at large. We want the youth to lead and become the ambassadors of development for their locality, Singh said. He added to inform that the Ministry has decided to open six Youth Resource Centres across the country including two in Assam.

Interestingly, when asked about possibilities of any centre coming up at Barak Valley, Singh said everything is at the preparatory stage and we shall look into the matter to open such centres in every district of the country.
