DIBRUGARH, Feb 21 - In an apparent bid to combat the anti-government campaign in the State, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today called upon all the party cadres of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to move out to the villages, tea gardens and urban areas with a list of development schemes undertaken by the BJP-led government.
Addressing a huge gathering of party workers from Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh and Jorhat Lok Sabha constituencies during its organizational meet at Chowkidinghee ground here, Sonowal said that the people of the State must able to assess the magnitude of development programmes implemented by the government while comparing with those of the previous governments.
�Let the people know the achievements of the Congress during their 60 years of rule. Tarun Gogoi was the Chief Minister for fifteen years. How many kilometers of road did they construct? In our two- years-and-nine months, you can proudly tell them that we have built 10,000 kms roads including several bridges,� he said.
Sonowal also flayed the Opposition parties in strong words.
�They (Opposition) only raise slogans but do not work. They failed to issue land pattas to the needy indigenous. They could not initiate any action against the APSC scam because some of their very own members are involved. We provided jobs to some 55000 youths in a transparent manner without taking bribes. While building houses for the poor under IAY, the middlemen of the Congress siphoned off major portion of the funds but we have done it with honesty and sincerity. We have also constructed toilets for some 26 lakh families,� said the Chief Minister.
State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government would not allow Assam to become next Jammu and Kashmir. �If the rights and interest of the indigenous people are to be protected, BJP must come to power,� he stressed.
The organizational meeting was also attended by Dibrugarh MP Rameshwar Teli, Lakhimpur MP Pradhan Baruah and Jorhat MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Power Minister Tapan Kumar Gogoi and MLAs of all the three Lok Sabha constituencies.
Later in the evening, the Health Minister launched the �Bharat Ke Maan Ki Baat Modi Ke Saath� programme at a private hotel here as part of its public outreach initiative to collect opinions and suggestions of the public and prepare the party manifesto thereafter.
