SHILLONG, Feb 10 The person alleged to have engineered the cold-blooded murder of 21 people in Assams Sonitpur district in November last year Haijeng has been arrested.

Meghalaya police today arrested the self-styled commander-in-chief of National Democratic Front of Bodoland, Sonitpur district, Haijeng along with five of his accomplices.

All the arrested people are accused of engineering the killing of 21 people in Assams Sonitpur district. We have arrested the accused from their hideout in Byrnihat, a police source said.

Also among the arrested include one self-styled sergeant major Mwdwi (western command), two private soldiers corporals Nwajar and Mukul Boro. The two other militants arrested are said to be sympathizers of the outfit.

All these militants have sneaked into India from

Bangladesh. The police have seized mobile phones and demand notes of the NDFB from their possession, police officials said.

Haijeng and his men belong to the anti-talk faction of NDFB. They are on a warpath with violent killings. In November last year,

Haijeng and his men killed 21 people and injured many more for the death of one Bodo villager.

The anti-talk faction of NDFB has warned that for death of a Bodo tribal, they would take the lives of 20 Indian citizens. Its a big breakthrough and we hope that with this arrest, the NDFB would be weakened further, sources said.

Meghalaya police sources here said that many more NDFB militants are likely to have taken safe haven here and lots of loose ends have to joined for this.

Of course there are others who might have fled before our operations. They (militants) were taking it easy at a Marwari restaurant in Byrnihat when they were arrested. But then, others who have fled are on our radar and would be hunted down, the police source stated.
