Sonitpur AASU protest against al-Qaeda, IS

TEZPUR, Oct 17 � A protest rally by Sonitpur district AASU, Tezpur sub division and Tezpur unit of AASU was taken out here today in protest against alleged activities and the threat posed by al-Qaeda and IS in the region.

The students of the local institutions including schools and colleges numbering more than thousand took part in the protest march through the town. The student body also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur, demanding stern action against the culprits involved with Jehadi organisations and detection and deportation of Bangladeshi foreigners in accordance with Assam Accord.

In the memorandum the student body further demanded to curb the activities of al-Qaeda and prevent illegal influx from Bangladesh.

The student body demanded preparation of NRC, immediate settlement of inter-State boundary dispute and to save Majuli from erosion and urged the government to evict the illegal settlers from the char areas.
