SILCHAR, July 20 - The unabated spread of COVID-19 has called for social distancing among people with the growing need for chores that involve �touchless contact�.
Keep this in view, Nirupam Choudhury, an engineer from Silchar, has come up with a sensor-based touch-free hand sanitizer dispenser.
Talking to The Assam Tribune, Choudhury said, �The portable touch-free 1,800 ml sanitizer dispenser machine is based on infrared motion. The circuit uses 5V power supply under 1A, which can be delivered by a mobile phone charging adapter. When anyone keeps his or her palm under the dispensing machine, the onboard sensors will immediately sense the obstruction and start spraying a certain amount of sanitizer liquid on to the palm for a preset time. A window on the back of the unit shows the level of sanitizer left in the dispenser. The refilling can be done using any water-based alcohol sanitizer in the tank.�
Choudhury, who has made at least 25 such sanitizer dispensers so far, said that the portable sanitizer dispenser can be used at indoor locations like hospitals, hotels and restaurants, offices and educational institutions.
Hailing the call for Atmanirbhar Bharat given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Choudhury said he had procured the sensor and equipment for the dispenser online from dealers in New Delhi and Bengaluru. �This is an excellent opportunity to upscale our own technologies and come out with innovations that can help the society. We must look at the positive dimensions of the initiative,� the engineer said.
